Some issues I found

Hi.

I got quite a bit of experience this weekend using Meta Post with Ventrian New Articles.  I taught an older lady how to use it and she loved it.  Once the articles were posted, I went into each article using the Web interface and added a picture using the Attachment interface of News Articles.  I noticed that each article gets it's own folder for images and the folder name comes from the article title.  This makes for very long folder names.  It seems that the long folder names are not compatible with the DNN file manager because the folders will not show even after a recursive sync.

I was logged in as host and was able to see all the folders in the dropdown of the News Article Edit form.  When I logged in as Admin, I was only able to see a few of the folders which makes it difficult to allow an admin to assign a photo.

Once I had all the photos associated, my Administrator edited the articles using WLW and reposted.  When she re posted, the assigned picture was removed.

Great module though, I am very impressed.

Hi mcox,

When you say the assigned picture was removed, do you mean the article image that you assign through WLW by setting the image alt tag to ai?

Also, with the metaPost Professional Edition, you can change the path where the images are saved for each provider.  I'm not sure this would solve your problem, but it's possible that you could make the image paths shorter this way.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help address this issue!

In News Articles, there is a feature in the Add/Edit form that allows you to assign an image to an article. In the most recent version of News Articles, this is found under the Attachment node. You can select a file from the portal using the standard DNN control. Once an image is assigned to an article, I can use the [IMAGE:200:300] token in the List template to always show the image at the proper size in the proper position resulting in a consistent look an feel.

Have a look at this page: http://www.marina.ca/Media.aspx. It is using the News Articles Standard template unedited. All I did was assign a photo to each article.

If a folder is created for each article, managing the photos is going to become very difficult when the number of articles become large. I am thinking even the page load of the Add/Edit article form will be hindered as it has to load all the folder structure into the Attachment control. This issue would also be Scott's.

Maybe what you could do is change the folder structure that you create to something like this:

Portal/newsarticles/wlw/2008/11, and put all article photos in that folder for a month. That may be a bad idea too, but it would solve the problem of the folder names being too long.

I will look at what version I bought. If it is not Professional, I will go for an upgrade.

Hi Don,

I do have professional edition and I see how to edit the path. Very cool, you are way ahead of me on this one.

Hi Don,

I am still having an issue with the Attached Photo feature of Ventrian. Any time I edit an article, the assigned attached photo is removed. This is quite inconvenient so if you could look into that, it would be greatly appreciated.

The other issue has to do with folders that are created by WLW. I now can adjust my photo path and have fewer folders as you pointed out, this is great, but there is a glitch somewhere.

Please take a few minutes to read my full problem here:
