Tabs with blogDisplay

Hi Don,

Really love the videos you put together to show how the tab feature works. It is very useful.

I was wondering whether you knew if the tabs work with blogDisplay.

FYI - I wasn't able to reply to your post hence the new thread, and I couldn't close one of the opened windows - I had to close the browser tab.

Re: Tabs with blogDisplay

Hi Liz,

Thanks for the kind words regarding the videos.

I haven't tried the tabs with blog display.  They key with the tabs is that you don't cut off the tab content.  As long as you configure any cutoff to allow the inclusing of the entire tab content (all the way to the last closing tb tag) then it should work fine, but again, I haven't tried the combination yet.

Regarding the issue you faced with the window that wouldn't close.  I fixed an issue with the tabs on Saturday.  I'm curious to know if you still have the same error when you view the thread.

Thanks!

Don

Re: Tabs with blogDisplay

Hi Don,

Hmm, I can't imagine being able to include all of the tabbed content. However I would have thought that a workaround would be to use summary text.

Not sure yet whether we are likely to use tabs, perhaps a little too complicated for our blogs, but it may be useful elsewhere. We are constantly redesigning and enhancing our site.

Yes, whatever you did seems to have fixed the tab close problem.

Thanks

Liz

Re: Tabs with blogDisplay

You could certainly use the summary field with an abbreviated version of the tabs.  The trick with the tab feature is to make sure that the entire tabbed content is included.  As I mentioned, I haven't used BlogDisplay enough to know what limitations you might face.  What I do with the blog module is set the summary limit to 0 so that my summary is never truncated (truncation is what would cause problems with the tabbed content).  I then make sure that I limit my summary to an appropriate length as I'm writing the summary.

HTH,

Don

Re: Tabs with blogDisplay

One more thought regarding this topic.  I didn't really envision the tab feature to be used much inside of summaries.  While people may find creative ways to use tabs inside of a summary, I think it's realy power is in providing a way to make your content available to your reader using the user experience concept of progressive disclosure.  By dividing more complicated posts into tabbed regions, it helps to simplify the content in a page, which makes it easier for the user to digest.  It's also a great way to put your users in control of your content, which is always a good thing from a usability point of view.

Thanks,

Don
