metaPost Professional Edition Released

Custom footers and Web 2.0 styled image expansion are two of our most popular reasons to upgrade to the Professional Edition of metaPost.  Check out this post in our blog to see image expansion in action.  The best part, it's completely automatic.  No configuration is necessary on your part.  Just cut and paste or drag and drop images into your post and metaPost handles the rest.

Feel free to watch one of the videos below to see the metaPost Professional Features in action.  Also, here are the steps that you will need to follow if you want to access the administrative interface for the metaPost module:

  • Install the module in any page, preferably a page reserved for admin access to modules.
  • While logged in with a superuser account, click on Administration (Or equivalent localized version) in the Module Actions menu.
  • Manage portal access through the manage portals link
  • Manage provider data such as image upload path and footer template from manage providers link.

If you have questions or issues, hop on over to the support forums and create a thread.

Also, please let us know what features you would like to see in future editions!

Pointing Windows Live Writer to Your Module

With your blog configured,

  • Open Windows Live Writer and select the Weblog menu
  • Select the Add Weblog Account... submenu
  • Select 'Another weblog service' and click Next.
  • Enter the URL to the root of the site containing your blog in the Weblog Homepage URL textbox (eg. http://www.itcrossing.com).  Update from Chad Voller:  Chad ran into problems here which I wasn't able to duplicate, but he came up with a workaround for anyone else running into the same issue.  If authentication fails at this point, then enter http://www.yourdomain.com/metapost.ashx.  Thanks for the help with this Chad!
  • Enter the DotNetNuke username and password which has been associated with a blog from the DotNetNuke blog module and click Next.
  • In the dropdown labeled 'Type of weblog that you are using' choose Metaweblog API.
  • For the remote posting URL, enter the URL you entered previously followed by /metaPost.ashx (eg. http://www.itcrossing.com/metaPost.ashx) and click Next.  Note for connecting with providers other than the blog module provider, there are two parameters that can be passed:
    • key - use this to specify the friendly name of the module to which you would like to connect.
    • sid - currently only used with the Text/HTML provider, the sid parameter (short for style id) is used to pass an id used for style detection.  With the Text/HTML provider, you will pass the module id.  With the Text/HTML provider, the sid needs to correspond to the module id of a Text/HTML module that exists on the home page of the site.  Be sure to disable caching before you click Next.
    • eg. http://www.yourdomain.com/metapost.ashx?key=text/html&sid=123
  • An 'Allow Writer to Create a Temporary Post' dialog will appear.  You can click either Yes or No to this dialog.  Clicking yes will allow you to see the styles of your site while editing content with Windows Live Writer.
  • That's it!  Happy blogging with your DNN blog module.

Brrr It's Cold22Popup Footnotes are a breeze to add while you are publishing your content from Windows Live Writer.  You can add images and any HTML that is acceptable in the module to which you're publishing.  This feature opens up some exciting possibilities for the content you publish to your site.  You can use this feature to create quick custom image galleries right within your post.  Click here or click on the image to the left for an example.

Here's a quick gallery I threw together with some of the images from above.
